UFO caught on camera?

Is this a UFO in the skies over Shrewsbury?

Is this a UFO in the skies over Shrewsbury?

Is this further evidence of UFO’s patrolling the skies above Shropshire?

Professional wedding photographer Helen Joynson captured these remarkable images while staying at her parents’ house at Fitz, near Shrewsbury.

sd3232927sty-catherine-2The 40-year-old said she had not even realised there had been anything unusual in the sky until noticing up to three UFOs when processing her digital photographs on a computer.

Mrs Joynson said the snaps were taken on a pleasant summer’s evening on July 12 at about 10.30pm.

She said: “My mother and I had just been reviewing the pictures which I had taken over our family weekend away before going to bed, as we did so we noticed a huge cloud in the sky at the end of the garden.

“It was vast and reflected the town lights of Shrewsbury on its base. As I had the camera in my hand, I stepped into the garden and took a few shots.

The UFOs were not seen by either of us at the time. It was only on looking at the pictures on my computer that I first noticed them.”

Mrs Joynson, who lives in Chester, said she had no explanation for what the UFOs could be.

sd3232938sty-catherineShe said: “I do believe that there is very possibly other life forms in the universe which we do not know of and there is a possibility that they are more advanced than us and that they may have craft which can observe us.

“I have no explanation at all. I thought at first that maybe it was a star and that I had created a blur by small, hand-held camera movement.

“However, the object clearly changes position and shape and in the last picture it has entirely disappeared thus ruling out a star.”

the object is made quite clear in the last picture. it is a handglider or micro light with the sun reflecting off its canopy.

    Yes, I think it’s a hang-glider or something.

I certainly wouldn’t discount the likelihood of other life forms in the universe, or even that they might be making surreptitious visits, but why would they be hovering over a tiny hamlet just outside Shrewsbury? :-)

The last picture is so clearly a hand glider you’d have to be blind not to see it. I’m glad Helen isn’t taking my wedding pictures.

this unknown object has been spotted a few times around this area lately, i have appraoched the RAF and MOD about this but they do not respond, however they are aware of this.
i suggest contacting nick pope a well known ufo expert about this. he can be contacted at his website http://www.nickpope.net

Whilst I also thought it looked like a hang glider, if you read the article it says the photo was taken around 10pm. Cant imagine a hang glider being out at that time. Lets not be too keen to dismiss this just yet.

You bunch of numnuts did you not read the story, these photo’s were taken an 10.30pm (which is night time for those stupid enough not to realise) handgliders and microlights wouldn’t be flying at that time.

firstly we only have their word for it being taken at that time, also it is still light up there and these glider people are of stern stuff and the reflection off the canopy would be due to a sun low in the sky or else they would be seen as a black blob. anyway i would put my money on it being a mad glider pilot looking for a thrill than aliens from outer space, i suppose this is why they call it a UFO. UNIDENTIFIED Flying Object.

Looks very much like a microlight /powered hang glider / paraglider to me. I reckon I can see the dangling pilot on the second shot !!
OK so it’s ‘night’ but there’s plenty of light around – look at the blue sky and white cloud.
Another possibility is a miltary UAV (pilotless plane)

It could also be something on the lens.
As a previous comment stated it’s a poor example of a ‘UFO’
Could even be Photoshop as it doesn’t much look like a proffesional shot either as their is nothing of interest in the photo apart from a blurred dark background and a big cloud.

There’s a difference between having an open mind and accepting paranormal explainations over far more likely prosaic ones.

There probably is life on other planets but I’m sure that the aliens were to pay Earth a visit, they’d do it in something more substantial than a hang-glider.

I love me some good UFO photos, but this could easily have been the ISS (international space station) which is now the brightest object in our night sky. that thing is also the basic shape of the ISS from the side. I recently saw it a full hour before the sunset. it moves slowly on constant observation, but slips out of view after 20-30 minutes. it looks almost identical, I shot very similar photos with my canon 5D MK II camera and zoomed in the same way. I can see how it might be confusing, it’s certainly startling to see a celestial object before the sun sets completely!

It seems to me if you take a picture of the sky and something happens to be in there its always a ‘UFO’ now in reality either it is a plane or some other simple explanation!! UFO’s do not exist!! stop living in your little bubbles… if they were real do u not think in the 50+ years people think they have seen something there would be some hard evidence!! instead of some local hippy saying ‘I have been abducted’….

Shropshire Star please stop posting these boring articles!!

I agree with Bob – it’s a wierd subject for a professional photographer and the lens is set so wide you can see the peripheral darkening. The Exif data on the photo should give an exact time for the photo – why “about 10.30″?

Sunset at Fitz on 12 July was 21.30Zulu, so hangliders could be up legally until 10.00pm. And if you’re enjoying yourself and not too worried about the CAA….

I’m afraid I have to disagree with Ricardo, depite envying his camera. The pink tinge on the base of the cloud suggests the camera is pointing more west than south, so unless it’s a VERY wide lens it’s not likely to be the ISS.

Of course, I could be wrong and it’s little green men – got to keep an open mind ;-)

good to see the sceptics are out in force on this one, however could i just mention that i have it on very good authority that RAF shawbury and other bases were tracking an “unidentified aircraft” at approx the same time this picture was taken. and yes darren is right the MOD are aware of these sightings to some degree. so thats put a spanner in the works then….

Well that’s that sorted then… as long as you “have it on good authority”, I guess it must be an alien. I just feel stupid for having thought it was a hang-glider… funny how your mind plays tricks, eh?

So Shawbury were tracking an “unidentified aircraft” at about that time – like a microlight stooging about over Sleap, perhaps, with no transponder, no height information, no radio, only a primary return on the radar? Lyneham once told me they were tracking an unidentified object in my vicinity – it turned out to be a lorry on the M4, not a UFO!

Nick Pope – Formally an investigator for the MoD (Secretariat of the Air Staff 2a) who’s job was to specifically look into reports of UFO activity on behalf of the government. By no means a crank he worked for the MoD for 25 years but was the appointed as the UFO investigator 1991 – 1994. When he took up the position in ’91 he was a self confessed sceptic but by the end of his time with AS2A he admitted that although 99% of cases had a rational explanation there were a number that could not. He also stated that there were foreign objects entering our airspace without authority.

I think that given his experience in the field he is an expert, maybe even the only credable one willing to go on record.
