All set for the Newport Show
Friday 17th July 2009, 11:23AM BST.
Organisers of the 100th Newport Show are promising a “really special” event.
The 100th show takes place tomorrow at Chetwynd Deer Park. Billed as Shropshire’s premier one-day agricultural show, attractions range from a motorcycle display to heavy horses and traditional country attractions, such as a hawk display, and the farrier competition.
Clare Farrell, show manager, said classes got under way at 8am tomorrow and the show ran until 6pm.
“We are looking forward to a really special show to celebrate our 100th event,” she said.
“We have an exceptionally high number of competitors for the cattle, sheep and horse classes and about 50 shire horses. That is an unheard of number.
“The farrier competition is also very popular and we also have a dog show, although people can not enter on the day.”
Main ring attractions include the Jamie Squibb Freestyle MX Motorcycle Display, an airborne motorcycle aerobatic stunt show.
There will be a display consisting of pairs of heavy horses in harness with vehicles and, as part of the 100th show celebrations, a display of farm machinery through the ages.
A Hawk Experience show will give two performances in the day.
For the younger generations there will be a range of entertainment on the village green.
Mrs Farrell said the food hall on Countryside Terrace would give visitors the chance to savour their purchases enjoying the wonderful panoramic views across the entire showground and said the trade stalls had been booked up months ago.
Mrs Farrell added: “Chetwynd Deer Park and its beautiful pool is truly one of the most stunning show grounds in Britain, it never fails to impress and inspire and always makes for a wonderful day out.”
Advance price tickets are available from various outlets until 5pm today.
Gate prices are £10 adults, £8 senior citizens and £4 children, with under-fives free. A family ticket costs £25.
