Voters at polls for special election
Thursday 16th July 2009, 12:37PM BST.
Voters were turning out at the polls in a parish near Shrewsbury today to take part in a special election which had to be called following a mix-up which sparked the resignation of four councillors.
Shropshire Council had to call the election for Leebotwood and Longnor Parish Council following the election blunder last month.
The error saw people from Longnor wrongly being able to vote for candidates in neighbouring Leebotwood.
Today’s election was taking place for the Leebotwood ward of the parish council only.
It was called after Nigel Brown, John Wilson, Derek Barkley and Joan Davies stepped down from the council.
Mr Brown and Mr Wilson stepped down at a stormy annual meeting of the parish council on June 9 where Richard Thomas, deputy returning officer at Shropshire Council, said the new election would be called at the unitary authority’s expense.

Isn’t the Elections Officer from the new, super-duper Shropshire County Council?
