Proposal to double size of village
Thursday 16th July 2009, 1:18PM BST.
A controversial plan to almost double the size of a north Shropshire village by building 36 homes, roads, parking areas and a village green, has been tabled by developers, it emerged today.
The development is earmarked for a 1.35 hectare site used by Hawk Plant Hire in The Grange, Loppington, near Wem.
But the idea has been met with opposition from Loppington Parish Council and residents.
The council has raised fears about the scale of the development, which it says will represent a 45 per cent increase in numbers of houses in the village.
Residents’ letters of objection have raised fears over increased traffic and an increase in crime and vandalism.
Developer Hawk Developments plans to make nine of the homes available as affordable housing if the scheme gets the go-ahead from Shropshire Council.
In a report to members, council officers are recommending the scheme is approved.
The report says: “The scheme will not have an unacceptable impact on the amenities of the neighbouring residents or the adjacent listed building and the removal of the existing business will improve highway safety on the local road network.”
Shropshire Council North Area Regulatory Committee will decide on the plans at a meeting in Edinburgh House, Wem, on Tuesday, starting at 3pm.

Met with opposition? never, well that has surprised me .It is amazing where do these morons expect others to live. However i do not get this village green clap trap just make developers build them with good size gardens we should not have kids playing in the streets etc.
