Talks over nightclub’s future
Tuesday 14th July 2009, 2:00PM BST.
Talks to help decide the future of a Shropshire nightclub at the centre of a murder inquiry were due to be held today.
Liquid and Diva in Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury, has been closed since 41-year-old father-of-two Darren Griffiths, from Harmer Hill, died following a disturbance at the club in the early hours of June 29.
Club bosses have already said it will remain closed until an internal review is carried out, while police have also requested a review of the club’s licence.
Tony Mantle, licensing officer for West Mercia Police, said a meeting would be held today between force officials and bosses from Luminar Leisure, which runs the nightspot.
He said: “It’s to plan a way forward with them as to whether they are wanting to reopen and we are going to take them through that process.”
Mr Mantle said the meeting did not necessarily mean that the club would reopen.
A spokeswoman for Liquid and Diva said: “We continue to cooperate fully with the police, which includes meeting with them as and when required to assist with their investigations.”
Two nightclub doormen yesterday appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court charged with the murder of Mr Griffiths.
Neil Stokes, 22, of Spring Gardens, Shrewsbury, and Daryl Brown, 32, of Severn Drive, Wellington, spoke only to confirm their names before the case was adjourned.
