Recycle scheme will pay people
Tuesday 14th July 2009, 10:50AM BST.
Environmentally-friendly people are to be paid for their efforts in a bid to improve recycling levels in a Powys town.
Welshpool Town Council will be introducing a trial recycling scheme for one month on Monday in a bid to exceed recycling targets.
Robert Robinson, council clerk, said: “We have prepared a recycling scheme where 5p vouchers are being offered for each can or bottle returned.”
He said people would be able to spend the vouchers in the town’s tourist information centre. Mr Robinson said: “The scheme will be put in place for one month from Monday.”
He said the collection point would be in the town’s Market Hall on Saturdays and Mondays between 9am and noon.
He added: “We as a town council want to improve recycling. Recycling targets in Powys are already being exceeded and we want to make sure that we are playing a vital part in meeting them.”

If this goes ahead people will have to lock away even their rubbish for fear of tresspassers entering their land in search of recyclable waste.
