Witnesses plea after woman hit at concert

Monday 13th July 2009, 2:30PM BST.

A woman was punched in the face at a 1980s nostalgia concert in Shrewsbury’s Quarry at the weekend.

The incident, which happened at about 8.30pm on Saturday during the Back To The 80s show, involved a group of men and women outside a toilet block.

The woman who was punched in the face was not seriously hurt but a man was escorted from the venue by security staff. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The event, presented by IML Concerts, saw pop icons of yesteryear entertaining a 10,000-strong crowd.

Despite the rain there were leg warmers and glitter wigs a-plenty. The audience enjoyed performances by Belinda Carlisle, Bananarama, Go West and The Human League.

Shropshire’s own Carol Decker was first on the bill.
