Two nightclub doormen have appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court today over the murder of a Shropshire father-of-two.

Neil Stokes, 22, of Spring Gardens, Shrewsbury, and Daryl Brown, 32, of Severn Drive, Wellington, spoke only to confirm their names before the case was adjourned.

They previously appeared before magistrates in Shrewsbury on July 2 where they were charged with the murder of Darren Griffiths.

The court was today told that if a trial took place it would not be held in Shrewsbury.

Judge Robin Onions said: “It will not be at this court, it will be at another court, the venue to be decided.”

During the short hearing Brown appeared wearing a dark suit and tie and Stokes wore a T-shirt and trousers. Both men were flanked by two security guards.

Liquid and Diva, in Raven Meadows, which is at the centre of the police investigation, has been shut since Mr Griffiths, of Harmer Hill, was injured following a disturbance.

He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he later died in the early hours of June 29.

The case was today adjourned until September 21 for a plea and case management hearing.

Antonie Muller, who is representing Brown, said if the trial went ahead he would expect it to last two weeks.

Earlier this month Mr Griffiths’ family paid tribute to the father-of-two.
