Bucks wait over left-back
Saturday 11th July 2009, 7:50AM BST.
Assistant manager Larry Chambers believes AFC Telford United may have to wait until the end of the month to complete their search for a new left-back.
The Bucks were left in the lurch when Rhys Meynell, one of their summer signings, performed a U-turn and opted to join Chester City instead.
And Chambers believes it will take at least another week to recruit a suitable replacement.
“There will be some developments in the next seven-to-14 days,” said Chambers.
“We’ve been talking to pro clubs about players we might want to take on loan and we’ve also been looking at players on trial at other clubs. It’s not something that will happen overnight but we are working on it.”
One option Telford have considered is to raid the youth ranks of one of the local professional clubs to bring in a promising youngster.
A similar policy proved successful last season, with the relatively untested James Meredith proving a success after joining on loan from Shrewsbury Town. But Chambers admits that is a course of action he would rather avoid this time around if he can find a more experienced alternative.
“If you take an Academy lad or a young lad from a pro club then you are taking a gamble,” he added. “Ideally we are looking for someone who has experience of playing at this level, if not above.”
