Store is cleared as alarm goes off

More than 500 customers were evacuated from a Telford supermarket this afternoon when a member of staff accidentally activated a fire alarm.The alert happened at Morrisons in Wellington at around 1pm.Shoppers and workers were cleared from the store and a fire crew from Wellington was called to the scene.Watch Manager Ian Leigh said: “A member of staff in the warehouse had accidentally broken a manual callpoint.”We checked over the building and confirmed there was no fire.”When we were satisfied the callpoint was the only cause of the alert we gave the go-ahead for staff and customers to return to the store.”Morrisons general manager Paul Averill said around 500 shoppers were in the store when the alarm was raised and they were asked to leave for around half an hour while the building was checked.
