Shrewsbury Town today returned to the Prostar Stadium after their pre-season training camp to Spain – with the future of winger Chris Humphrey still shrouded in doubt.

The former West Bromwich Albion youngster, who was left behind as Town spent the last five days in Almeria, is yet to sign the two-year-contract offer which remains on the table.

And Simpson today admitted the player, who has been training with the youth team over the last week, must reach a decision soon – for the benefit of himself and the club.

“He has been able to speak to other clubs from January 1 and has had since May 25 to see if there are any better offers than the one we have made so Chris needs to decide what he wants to do,” said Simpson.Town have already rejected one bid from Championship outfit Blackpool for the 21-year-old.And Simpson will be anxious for a quick resolution to the saga as, if Humphrey moves elsewhere, he is almost certain to be in the market for a new right winger.Meanwhile, the Town boss has praised the attitude of his squad during the last five days in Spain.Sessions“All the players worked extremely hard and it was a really good week,” he added.”It was ideal because we have done 11 sessions from Saturday to Thursday and they have been able to get the rest they needed between sessions.”It’s been tough because it has been very hot. It was 39 degrees last Sunday and every other day has been between 33 and 39.”But the players have put the work in.”Hopefully we will see the benefits with the performances over the first few games we play and we can keep working towards the first League match on August 8 (against Burton).”Town’s first pre-season games comes on Wednesday at Blue Square North side Northwich Victoria.
