Family’s tribute to murdered dad
Wednesday 8th July 2009, 11:45AM BST.
Heartfelt family tributes have been paid to a Shropshire father-of-two who died from injuries sustained in a Shrewsbury nightclub disturbance.
Darren Griffiths, 41, of Harmer Hill, near Shrewsbury, died in hospital after the incident at Liquid and Diva nightclub in the early hours of June 29.
Amanda Griffiths, his wife and the mother their daughters, Charlotte, six, and Ellen, four, said: “Our world has been turned upside down, completely shattered. Darren called us his three princesses.
“Now we will never get another kiss or big cuddle. Our family is broken and no-one can fix it.”
Mrs Griffiths paid tribute on behalf of the entire family, including Darren’s mother Dawn Griffiths, of Oswestry, and his sister Sharon Emmett, of Telford, a week after his death.
She added: “We’ve got so many fond recollections but my lasting memory will be his smiling face after taking part in the Dragon Boat Festival.
Skills
“The girls and I were there watching, that’s the last time we saw him.”
The couple were married on November 1, 2002. Mr Griffiths had completed 12 years in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and later working as the engineer for Shrewsbury’s Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside shopping centres.
He also loved rugby and was a member of Shrewsbury Rugby Club where he played as a prop forward for many years.
Mrs Griffiths added: “Darren was at a happy point in his life. He loved his job, his rugby and his family and was always there if you needed him.
“I will miss all the little things he did for us. No more sweets and chocolates when he got home from work.
“No more talking about what’s happened in the day. We will all miss him so much, but we will never forget.”
Mr Griffiths’s sister Sharon said: “Throughout his life Darren always strived to help others and during his Army career one of his greatest pleasures was when he worked with the Army youth team and took disadvantaged children to the Lake District for outdoor pursuits and climbing.”
- Two men have been charged with the murder of Mr Griffiths. Two others have been released on police bail pending inquiries.
