Chas and Dave gig hit by tragedy
Wednesday 8th July 2009, 11:40AM BST.
One half of legendary cockney duo, Chas and Dave has pulled out of a planned performance in south Shropshire after a family bereavement.
David Peacock, will not perform along with pal Chas Hodges during the event at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on Friday night, following the death of his wife last weekend.
Barry Collings, spokesman for the pair, confirmed the news on behalf of the duo but he said the show would go on.
And a letter from Chas, which has been sent to the Assembly Rooms to pin up on the day of the performance, said: “Unfortunately owing to the recent bereavement of his wife, Dave will not be appearing tonight (Friday). But with his support, I shall be taking over the show.
“The first half will be my tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis with whom I used to work. The second half will contain all the Chas and Dave hits and more.
“Here’s to my friend being back on stage with me in the near future. In the meantime, come in and enjoy a show. Chas.”
On Friday, Chas will also demonstrate the duo’s new musical form, Rockney which mixes pub sing-along, boogie woogie piano and pre-Beatles rock and roll.
Tickets cost £17.50. For details call the box office on (01584) 878141.
