Police in Welshpool have dealt with more than 1,208 incidents in the last three months.

Constable Jim Baines, of Welshpool police, said he hoped more people would come forward to help officers tackle crime in the area.

At a Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting last night, Constable Baines said about 174 of the incidents had been related to anti-social behaviour in and around the Welshpool area.

He said: “We have been extremely busy over the last few months – this is the busiest time of year for us because it’s the peak season for crime.”

He said that 21 of the incidents had been domestic related, 46 had involved road traffic collisions, 78 involved thefts, 49 were violent incidents, 24 were missing person reports and 22 were burglaries.

He said: “We’ve been doing our best to crackdown on drug users in the town and in the last few weeks have arrested 12 people and issued five drug warrants.

“We still have a long way go to to combat the problem in the town and surrounding areas and if anyone sees or hears of anything suspicious they are urged to give us a call.”

He added: “A lot of drug addicts will go on to commit a crime and we want to do our best to tackle the problem before it gets any worse.”
