New duck family caught on camera
Tuesday 7th July 2009, 10:15AM BST.
This is the moment when an adorable family of newly-hatched ducklings Shropshire took their first tentative steps on Shropshire soil.
The fluffy new arrivals entered the world earlier this month and were caught on film by eagle-eyed Shropshire Star reader Cynthia Thomas.
She spotted the “quacking” photo opportunity as she visited her sister in Battlefield, Shrewsbury.
She wasted no time and whisked out her camera before snapping away to bring readers the breaking news of her feathered friends’ arrival.
She said: “I was visiting my sister in Battlefield when these ducklings hatched in front of us. I thought you would enjoy it.”
It comes days after another family of birds caused a stir elsewhere in Shropshire.
Richard Rowlands and his family from Plealey, near Shrewsbury, have hailed the “shear genius” of a pair of swallows that have built an impromptu nest on a pair of hedge clippers in the roof of their garage.
The nest sprang up in 24 hours and the birds have some youngsters on the way after a trio of eggs were discovered in the nest.
Mr Rowlands said he would keep an eye on the eggs until the three swallow chicks hatch.
