Town in Spain for training camp

Saturday 4th July 2009, 11:40AM BST.

shrewsnewlogotm5Shrewsbury Town today jetted off for a six-day training camp to Spain with a party of 19 players.

Paul Simpson, his staff and squad were due to arrive at their Desert Springs resort base in Almeria this evening.

Goalkeeper Glyn Garner and striker Dave Hibbert were both left at home to continue their rehabilitation from shoulder and foot problems respectively, while Chris Humphrey also hasn’t travelled after not yet signing a contract.

New boys Jake Robinson, Craig Disley, Dean Holden, Chris Neal, Lewis Neal and Andreas Arestidou were all in the touring party, as were young professionals Jake Simpson, Harry Hooman and Andre Gray.

And they were all set for a gruelling week before returning on Thursday.

“We will train three times a day and it’s a good chance to do a lot of our fitness and preparation work,” said manager Simpson.

“Our first friendly is on the Wednesday after we get back (at Northwich) so we want to have a lot of the work done by the time we return.”

Meanwhile, Simpson has admitted his search for fresh blood is at an end – for the time being at least.

“I am done at the moment,” he added.

“I think we are covered in most areas and we just have to take stock of what we have got, see how the first few weeks of pre-season go and see if there is anyone else we need to think about bringing in.”
