It’s been 18 years since jewellery tycoon Gerald Ratner made a joke that destroyed his business and nearly destroyed him.
Last night he was special guest at the Shropshire Business Awards and he took time out to talk to the Star’s James Shaw about how an off-the-cuff comment about a ‘crap’ sherry decanter nearly ruined his life – and about how he has rebuilt it.
