Murder inquiry club will stay shut
Friday 3rd July 2009, 12:45PM BST.
A Shrewsbury nightclub at the centre of a police murder inquiry is to remain closed for the foreseeable future “in the interests of the investigation”.
Liquid and Diva in Raven Meadows has been shut since Monday when Darren Griffiths, of Harmer Hill, was injured following a disturbance. He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he later died.
Neil Stokes, 22, of Spring Gardens, Shrewsbury, and Daryl Brown, 32, of Severn Drive, Wellington, yesterday appeared before magistrates in Shrewsbury charged with the murder of Mr Griffiths.
Stokes and Brown, who were doormen at the nightclub, were remanded in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on July 13.
Two other men arrested as part of the inquiry have been released on police bail while the investigation continues into the death of Mr Griffiths, a 41-year-old father of two.
A statement released on behalf of Liquid and Diva earlier this week had said it was planning to “open as usual this weekend”.
But Chief Inspector Martin Whitelegg said: “Liquid and Diva will not be reopening while we continue to investigate the incident. It will remain shut for the foreseeable future.”
He said the decision followed talks with the nightclub’s owners. Nobody from Liquid and Diva was available for comment.
Detectives have renewed appeals for witnesses.
