Go-ahead given for pet crematorium

Thursday 2nd July 2009, 12:34PM BST.

Plans for a pet crematorium in North Shropshire have been given the go-ahead.

Animal centre owner Jenny Martinez is behind the scheme, which she hopes will open later this year.

She said she hoped income from the crematorium, to be built in Acton Reynald, will eventually fund the Grinshill Animal Rescue Centre, which she runs in nearby Grinshill.

Mrs Martinez said the £20,000 business should be up and running by October.

She has been granted planning permission by Shropshire Council, to convert a farm building into an office and to put up a building to house the incinerator at Woodstile Farm, Acton Reynald.

“Everybody can use our services, regardless of whether it’s a budgie or a Great Dane,” she said.

“They know I love my pets and I would see my pets seen off in a more respectful way and not just sent off in a van.

“We will treat them with respect – people should know that about me anyway.”
