County firm creating up to 100 jobs

Thursday 2nd July 2009, 1:40PM BST.

field_treesUp to 100 jobs are to be created in the region by a new Shropshire business helping companies go green.

Bridgnorth-based AllianceCO2, which helps businesses offset carbon emissions by planting trees, has been inundated with inquiries.

And now boss David Henderson says he needs to create the sales jobs to cope with the huge increase in demand.

Firms such as hotels, manufacturers and quantity surveyors have signed up and are benefiting from a service that allows them to channel money reserved for their corporation bills into saving the environment.

Mr Henderson, a former associate at Savills, said “the company uses money it was going to be giving to the taxman towards combating climate change”.

“Our expert team of advisors will visit the client and calculate the numbers of trees needed to start offsetting their carbon footprint and then plant and maintain them in a UK location,” he said.

AllianceCO2 is now looking to find 100 field sales representatives.

Sounds rather novel. I wait to see the end result with great interest and wonder why, if matters were this simple, why thousands of others didn’t think of it before.

Thousands of others HAVE thought of it before.

I recommend this article by environmental journalist George Monbiot (Selling Indulgences,

For a more amusing, satirical look I recommend the website Cheat Neutral.
