Striker Hibbert ruled out for Town’s return
Tuesday 30th June 2009, 1:27PM BST.
Striker Dave Hibbert has been ruled out of Shrewsbury Town’s return to pre-season training tomorrow.
Hibbert is still troubled by the foot and back problems which ruled him out of the end of last season.
The 23-year-old was today seeking further advice and treatment from a specialist in London and will miss the training camp to Spain which begins on Saturday.
“I have got a problem with my back which is causing some problems with my foot as well and I’m hoping it will all be sorted so I can be back running in a couple of weeks,” said Hibbert.
“I’m going to miss the start of pre-season which is a massive blow because I will be playing catch-up – but it just means I have to work two or three times as hard to get to the levels I need to when I do get started.
“Missing Spain is really disappointing because, although you train three times a day and it’s really tough, everyone felt the benefits at the start of last season because we all felt really sharp.
“Hopefully everything can be sorted soon and I can still be fit for the start of the season.”
The injury comes at a time when Hibbert, who is in the final year of his contract, is desperate to make an impact and force his way back into the plans of manager Paul Simpson after playing a limited role last term.
Full-back Darren Moss has secured his Football League future by signing a two-year-contract with League Two Morecambe.
Moss rejected a one-year-deal to remain at the Prostar Stadium.
Meanwhile, former Shrewsbury assistant manager Mick Wadwsorth, who spent a spell as No 2 to ex-Town boss Gary Peters, is the new manager of Chester City.
