Hundreds of veterans from the three armed services stepped out at an annual reunion and parade in Shropshire.

Organisers said the number of people who attended the event at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford had exceeded their expectations, with more than 600 marching.

The parade, which marched onto the Cosford airfield, was led by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.

The event, held by the National Service (RAF) Association, is estimated to have brought about 3,000 people to the airbase yesterday.

It included a 10-minute display by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire. Organiser Percy Woodhouse said: “It went extremely well. I think we had even more people yesterday than we had before.”

He added: “The parade went beautifully, we had more men parading than we had last year and that was a good year. We had more than 600 parade this year, no doubt about it.”

Mr Woodhouse said people from as far afield as Canada attended.

The Fordhouse ATC Drill Squadron from Wolverhampton did two displays for the crowds and the Bridgnorth ATC Squadron band performed twice.

Mr Woodhouse said: “One of the nicest things was there were 60 young people who actually took part in the parade. Usually we get 20 to 30.”

Air Chief Marshal Sir Christopher Moran was accompanied at the parade by Air Commodore Christopher Green, the commandant of DCAE Cosford.

Museum general manager Alex Medhurst also said the event had gone “very very well”.
