It looks like mud, sweat and tears at Glastonbury as the rain poured on the festival ahead of a heatwave next week.

Fans who were mourning the death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson were victims of heavy downpours.

But the weather yesterday did not put a dampener on spirits as tens of thousands of music fans were seen taking the opportunity to dive headlong into the mud.

And although it may have come too late for Glastonbury, temperatures are expected to soar over the next couple of days days with Britain heading for a heatwave next week, the Met Office and the Department of Health said today.

Temperatures could reach 32C (89.6F) in London on Monday and Tuesday, with other parts of the country also enjoying prolonged sunshine.

Glastonbury revellers were expecting clear skies today as they prepare for sets by Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson’s former scourge, Jarvis Cocker.

Last night, a bra-less Lily Allen wore a solitary white glove in apparent tribute to the King of Pop during a high energy set in Glastonbury’s evening sunshine.

Visitors to Glastonbury today were also set to be treated to two Shropshire-themed films being shown on a giant screen.

The first is The Gleaming, filmed on the beautiful Long Mynd, and the second is I Saw A Girl, made by group of adults with learning disabilities in Telford & Wrekin.
