Separate sites plan for sports facilities

New sports facilities are set to built at six separate sites across Telford.
An international tennis hub and two swimming pools are among the plans unveiled to Telford & Wrekin Council members yesterday.
The move will see facilities developed at six schools across the borough over the next four years following a review of the council’s strategy for leisure services.
Councillor Andrew Eade, council leader, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to change sports provision across the borough.”
A decision has been taken to abandon a bid to create the Telford Sports, Learning & Enterprise Community (TSLEC), which would have had facilities on a single site.
The council will now spread investment across the borough into “learning communities”.
The plans include a pool and “whole life” fitness centre at the Abraham Darby Learning Community, sport and community rooms at The Lakeside Learning Community Centre in Stirchley, and an improved sports and leisure facility as part of the new Oakengates Learning Community.
Priorslee Learning Community is set for new facilities, with a new pool and leisure facilities planned for Burton Borough School, serving the Newport area.
The council is also working with the Lawn Tennis Association to establish an international tennis hub at Hadley Learning Community.
