Riza commits to Town

Thursday 25th June 2009, 2:29PM BST.

omer-rizaStriker Omer Riza has become the latest of Shrewsbury Town’s ‘out-of-contract six’ to commit to the club – verbally agreeing to a new contract.

The former Arsenal apprentice has told boss Paul Simpson he will accept the one-year deal on the table and is due at the Prostar Stadium tomorrow to put pen to paper.

Riza joined Town midway through last season but couldn’t play until the closing weeks due to a lengthy ban imposed by the Turkish FA dating back to his turbulent time at Trabzonspor.

He forced his way into the reckoning once that was lifted and ended up playing a prominent role in the League Two play-offs, coming on as a substitute in the Wembley defeat to Gillingham.

His addition follows hot on the heels of midfielder Steve Leslie, who has already signed the two-year deal that was put to him.

Centre-back Kelvin Langmead and winger Chris Humphrey have also informed the manager of their intention to stay on after taking their time to consider two-year contracts.

Right-back Darren Moss has rejected the one-year deal put his way and is now being linked heavily with a move to Town’s League Two rivals Morecambe.

That leaves just Ben Davies of the six to give an answer, with the midfield playmaker and former captain having been away on his honeymoon.

And with regards to the vacant right-back berth, Simpson added: “I already have someone who I am interested in, with Mossy leaving I can now have further discussions and try to bring them to the club.”

  • The prices have been unveiled for the Shropshire Senior Cup final between Shrewsbury and AFC Telford United, which will be played at the Prostar Stadium on Saturday, July 18. Adult tickets will be £10 with over-65s, students and children £5.
  • Prices have also been unveiled for the friendlies with West Brom and Leicester. Adult tickets for each game are £15 – or £25 to cover both fixtures.
