Lost signs mystery is solved
Thursday 25th June 2009, 11:06AM BST.
Organisers of a flower festival who thought their signs for the event had been stolen were surprised to discover they had been removed by Shropshire Council.
The signs advertising the 45th annual flower festival at Worfield, near Bridgnorth, went missing after they were placed along the A454 road. A 10ft by 4ft billboard was also taken.
The event is taking place at St Peter’s Church from Saturday to Monday.
But after publicity about the missing signs organisers found out they had been removed by the council’s Environmental Maintenance Department.
Organiser Maureen Turner said they discovered where the signs might be after organisers of the Chelmarsh Flower Festival, who had also had their signs removed, got in touch.
Mrs Turner said: “We’ve been putting up the signs for years and this is the first time we’ve had them moved.”
A spokesman for Shropshire Council said: “The council monitors how many signs are permitted on the highway to ensure that they do not distract motorists and present a hazard.”
