Nearly £50,000 of cannabis was discovered in a Telford raid, just hours after a cannabis factory packed with £100,000 worth of the illegal drug was discovered.

The latest raid came when officers raided two addresses in Selbourne, Sutton Hill, on Friday.

A total of 41 cannabis plants – worth about £1,000 each during a 12-month production cycle – and about £150 worth of cultivated cannabis was seized. The drugs and property found at the two addresses are now undergoing forensic tests.

A 23-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis. The man was also arrested on suspicion of the possession of cannabis. Both have been released on police bail.

Another woman was arrested and cautioned on suspicion of possession of cannabis.

The raid came just a day after more than £100,000 of the illegal class-B drug was found at an address in Church View, Hadley.

West Mercia officers have swooped on a string of addresses across Shropshire and have so far recovered more than £700,000 from cannabis factories.

Inspector Derek Holland, of South Telford local policing team, said officers would continue to clamp down on ringleaders producing and others supplying drugs in the borough. He said: “We will not tolerate the use of or supply of illegal drugs.

“Drugs are at the centre of a lot of criminal activity and if we receive information that drugs are being used or supplied, we will seize the substances and prosecute.

“We need the continued help of the public in combating the drugs trade in Telford and I would urge anyone who has any concerns about drugs in their community to call us.”
