Motorists facing delays for works
Monday 22nd June 2009, 1:10PM BST.
Drivers on one of the main routes into Shrewsbury town centre will face traffic chaos for more than a month as work takes place to install a roundabout for a new housing development.
Spring Gardens in Ditherington will face major disruption from next Monday for five weeks, as preparation work is carried out in association with the Persimmon scheme.
And motorists will face further misery from late August through to early November at the site as the actual roundabout construction begins.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during the work.
Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes North West, today said a start date for the building of the homes would be brought forward if an attempt to claim Government funding proved successful.
He said it would remain on hold if the application was turned down.
“From June 29, we will be carrying out service diversion work at Spring Gardens,” he said.
“With regard to the construction of homes, we have submitted an “expression of interest” in the Government’s much welcomed Kickstart initiative, which includes funding for Spring Gardens.
“We await a decision to discover if we have been successful in being placed on the shortlist for this scheme.
“The start of construction at the development is currently dependent on this.”

I travel the Ditherington Heathgates each day and it’s usually very busy, the question you have to ask is why can’t they leave this work until the schools break up to do this work. Surely a few weeks would no make all the much difference but it would to those of us who travel this route.
