Carnival a big hit with all
Monday 22nd June 2009, 2:58PM BST.
Dozens of decorated floats and a court jester made their way through a Mid Wales town in the name of fun. Llanfair Caereinion Carnival was held on Saturday, with people dressed up as characters from television and film.
Hundreds of people lined the streets to see the parade led by carnival queen Alicia Ringrose, 14, with Jack the Jester and a samba band also playing to the crowd.
At the carnival field, entertainment was provided by the Fire Ninja Troop and a circus workshop, with rides, face-painting and other activities for all the family.
Organisers said today they were delighted with the carnival, which saw better weather than last year, which was hit by downpours.
Organiser Ema Waldron said she wanted to thank residents for turning out. She said: “Lots of people turned out for the fun of the carnival, which I was very pleased with. Although the weather wasn’t perfect, it was a lot better than last year.
“Everything seemed to go very well and we had a number of floats in the parade, along with the carnival queen float.
“In Llanfair Caereinion, everybody seems to take the carnival to heart and turn out in force for it. Everybody puts a lot of thought into their decorations and costumes, and they look fantastic.”
The floats were judged in classes, including best adult float, children’s float and most comical.
