Plans for £45,000 play area revamp

Saturday 20th June 2009, 10:20AM BST.

A £45,000 scheme to revamp a play area in Tenbury Wells has been put out to tender.

It comes after a two-day consultation at the Pump Rooms in the town which allowed children to put forward their own suggestions for what they wanted.

Council officers also visited other play areas to look for ideas.

Tenbury mayor Richard Jones said they expected the building work to go ahead in December with the project being completed in about March.

The council has received £45,000 in grants to refurbish the Burgage play area.

Mr Jones said: “We are in the final planning stages of the children’s play area and after consultation with the children, we are ready to submit the plans.

“We should start building in December. We didn’t want to close the playground during the summer months.

“It’ll be open until at least October.”

Some suggestions, such as water features, had to be ruled out because of health and safety constraints, but Mr Jones said he thought they had been able to incorporate the most popular suggestions.

The project has been in the pipeline for 12 months while the council secured funding. Some of the money has a spending deadline attached so this phase of the scheme should be completed by March. The council is to continue seeking funds for the project.
