Decision due over new care home bid
Saturday 20th June 2009, 10:20AM BST.
Controversial plans for a 69-bedroom care home in Shrewsbury look set to be thrown out by planners after about 200 letters of objection were lodged with planners.
Developers want to build the home on the site of the former Radbrook Hall Hotel in Radbrook Road.
The plans were originally submitted last year but with- drawn after objections were raised, leading to the latest revised scheme being submitted.
But Shropshire Council has received about 200 letters of objection from people concerned about a wealth of issues.
Concerns have been raised about the scale of the development, inadequate parking and access, and about the potential impact on wildlife.
Other people also think houses would be more appropriate for the site and raise concerns about overshadowing onto their properties, disturbance and noise.
The application will go before Shropshire Council’s Area Regulatory Committee for the central division on Thursday when officers are recommending the plans be refused.
In a report to the committee, officers conclude: “The development is considered to be unacceptable in terms of its impact on the surrounding trees and on residential amenity and it is considered to be over-development, out of character with the surrounding area.”
