More runs needed by Newport
Friday 19th June 2009, 12:30PM BST.
Sharpen up the running – that’s the message for Newport as they attempt to haul themselves away from the foot of Birmingham League division three.
Fellow strugglers Coleshill are the visitors to Audley Avenue and Newport are desperate for a second victory of the season with a 37-point gap already separating them from the safety line.
“The batting has to improve,” said chairman Bob Williams.
“We have only batted out our overs once in all the games we have played this season and that has to change. We also need to start picking up the quick singles.
“In last week’s game against Olton, I would say we missed out on 25 singles and Olton got 25 that we wouldn’t have got with the way we ran – and that’s a 50-run difference.”
Williams, however, is confident Indian professional Rajat Bhatia will make a huge difference after arriving last week.
“Rajat gave everyone a lift last week and is helping out with the coaching now which will hopefully make a difference.
“He was in the same team as Paul Collingwood in the Indian Premier League so he’s playing on the top stage, but we still need to support him.
