I can’t see what they’ve got to apologise for, they’re intending spending in the region of £100m of public money,at least they consult the public which is more than I can say for the last administration in Shrewsbury.

These people never learn. Lord help us with the new Shropshire Council if this is an example of their work.

Name and shame the incumbents, but they aren’t brave enough to face the public or the cameras!
“Lessons will be learnt”, now their is a poor answer if I ever heard one. No doubt the next census will be held at 11pm to minimise disruption!

I suppose the person responsible will be rewarded with a hefty pension and lump sum when they retire courtesy of the rate payers

Manycolleagues returning home to Shrewsbury from Telford yesterday did know that a survey was underway and decided to use an alternative route! So much for the council trying to avoid foewarning commuters. Since so many people did this it does call into question the strategy anyway.
I remember 3-years ago when travelling on the A127 in Essex the County Council there caused an 11-mile tailback when conducting a census and I had to sit for 2 hours in blistering heat.
Today a colleague told me Derby Council halted traffic for a census for two-and-a-half-hours at about 9.30am on the Borrowash Road the westbound carriageway of the A52 near junction 25 of the M1.
The questions I want answered is how much money has the council cost businesses as well as delaying and inconveniencing many people trying to get home from work? What is the cost to the council taxpayer of mounting a census anyway?
As councils seem unable to run a census without such enormous disruption they should lose their powers to conduct anymore in future.
