Prince Harry said today he was “massively” confident he could make a return to the front line after he finished his training at RAF Shawbury. And Prince William would like to follow his brother into action.

The brothers made their comments as they held a photocall to update people on the progress of their training at the Shropshire airbase to become military flyers.

William, 26, is on the way to becoming an RAF search and rescue pilot while 24-year-old Harry is six months into a course to become an Army helicopter pilot.

Harry was posted to Helmand province in Afghanistan in December 2007. However, he was pulled out 10 weeks later after a US website leaked details of his posting.

William today hinted that he wished to emulate his achievement. When asked if he thought an operational role was an impossibility, he said: “In my mind, of course, you talk to everyone else and it’s impossible. I still remain hopeful there’s a chance.”

The brothers said they had been enjoying their time in Shropshire.

William said: “It’s been good fun. I’ve been into Shrewsbury a few times and enjoyed watching Shrewsbury Town in the play-offs, unfortunately they didn’t manage the last final bit.

“It’s been good, we’ve really enjoyed it.”

Harry, who is known as Lieutenant Wales at the base, said: “I haven’t had much chance to go out at the moment – it’s the Army, we work harder.”
