Cyclist hurt in robbery

Thursday 18th June 2009, 11:17AM BST.

A cyclist suffered “substantial bruising” after being attacked by two men in a Telford street robbery, detectives said today.

The 21-year-old man from Admaston was cycling through an underpass near to the Big Blue Fish Bar at Leegomery centre when he was stopped by the robbers.

They challenged him before beating him and fleeing with his Nokia mobile phone.

Constable Pete Simmonds, spokesman for Telford police, said the victim was left with “substantial bruising” and advised to seek medical help after the attack at 4.30pm yesterday.

Mr Simmonds said the victim described one of the attackers as white, in his late teens to early 20s, of thin build, 5ft 10ins with fair hair and wearing a dark hooded jacket.

The second was black, in his late teens to early 20s, of medium build, 5ft 11ins with short black “afro-style” hair.

The victim said the second robber had a long face, with “chubby” cheeks and stubble on his chin and was wearing a bright red T-shirt.

Constable Simmonds said: “Police also wish to trace a couple who the victim sighted just after the attack, they are described as a man on a mobility scooter accompanied by a lady.”
