Cannabis seized in two raids

Thursday 18th June 2009, 2:57PM BST.

About £230,000 of cannabis has been seized in raids on two neighbouring properties in a Shropshire village, police today revealed.

Officers raided the first property in Alveley, near Bridgnorth, on Monday night discovering a haul of cannabis and hydroponics.

The following day, the drugs team searched the property next door where they discovered another haul of cannabis and cultivation equipment.

Detective Inspector Gavin Kinrade, of Shrewsbury CID, said between the two properties about 80 cannabis plants were found, along with crop from approximately 150 more cannabis plants.

The total crop would earn the cannabis factory ringleader about £230,000 as each cannabis plant has a street value of about £1,000 during a 12-month production period.

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s have been arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

  • A 19-year-old man has been charged with four drug-related offences after a raid at an address in Shrewsbury in November last year. He is due to appear at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court early next month.
