We won’t let Shropshire down – Adderley are confident of staging an ace County Merit finals day on Sunday.

Officials of the village club near Market Drayton have been hard at work this week putting the final touches to their preparations for the big Shropshire Star-backed day.

And nothing has been left to chance, with plans being made to cater for inclement weather after the 11am start time.

County president Isobel Jones staged the County Junior Merit finals night at Adderley last year, having picked Prees for the big day in 2006 in her first term in the office.

Now though it is Adderley in the spotlight, and they are sure they can deliver.

“We are looking forward to it,” said Adderley president and club captain Alan Hodgson.

“It’s very much an honour for us, absolutely, and we won’t let the county association down – we’ll put on a good show.”

Greenkeeper Stan Brookes has been doing overtime to get the surrounds in tip- top shape, as well as working to produce the best playing surface possible.

There will be 100 seats, plus benches, around what is a big, flattish green for the anticipated large crowd.

Adderley – with teams in both the Whitchurch and Drayton leagues – opened new covered accommodation over the winter and, added Hodgson: “We have gazebos on standby if the weather turns dodgy.”

Clearly, Hodgson, Brookes and secretary Lorna Moseley want to enjoy having stars in their eyes on Sunday . . .
