Teenager sexually assaulted
Wednesday 17th June 2009, 2:15PM BST.
A teenage girl was sexually assaulted after being pulled into a doorway in Shrewsbury town centre.
Detectives have launched an investigation into the incident, which is reported to have happened in Mardol at about 8.15pm on Monday.
The girl, who is in her mid to late teens, was left “frightened, shocked and shaken” by the ordeal, police said today.
They said the girl was approached by a man who pulled her into a doorway next to Body Tech and reportedly attacked her.
It is alleged that the girl was then taken to nearby Hills Lane, where she managed to get away and make her way home before police were called.
A man was arrested in the early hours of yesterday following police inquiries into the alleged incident and he has been released on bail.
Detective Sergeant Allan Crossley, of Shrewsbury CID, said numerous people walked past at the time of the alleged assault and must have seen what happened.
Contact police on 0300 333 3000.
