Reshuffle on cards for batting
Wednesday 17th June 2009, 1:31PM BST.
Shropshire’s batting order is set for a reshuffle as they continue their Minor Counties Championship campaign this weekend, writes JAMES GARRISON.
Vice-captain Ed Foster and Worcestershire all-rounder Jack Shantry both return to the team for the three-day clash with Wales at Bridgnorth which gets underway on Sunday.
And that has prompted a re-think in batting strategy after Shropshire were dismissed cheaply in both innings during last week’s thrilling draw against Herefordshire.
Andy Gray and Jono Whitney opened the innings at Eastnor, but both are now likely to drop down the order.
“We need to set about batting 90 overs rather than just 50 or 60,” said captain James Ralph.
“Ed will definitely open the batting and we have options to consider for the other opener.”
Shifnal’s Bruce Thomason and Shrewsbury’s Mike Barnard, who will be 12th man, make way for Foster and Shantry.
The full team is: James Ralph (Kidderminster, captain), Ed Foster, Rob Foster (both Shrewsbury), Jack Shantry, Andy Gray (both Walsall), Atiq Chisthi (Knowle & Dorridge), Richard Oliver (Whitchurch), Jono Whitney (Bridgnorth), Anthony Parker (Shifnal), Matt Tilt, Steve Taylor (both St Georges).
