Biker killed on A442
Wednesday 17th June 2009, 2:30PM BST.
A Shrewsbury man died when his motorbike was involved in a smash with a pick-up truck, which closed a road for up to six hours.
Richard Mann, 52, from Shrewsbury, was confirmed dead at the scene of the collision, which also involved a black Nissan Navara and happened along the A442 at Shatterford, between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, yesterday morning.
Tributes were today paid to the father-of-two, who worked as a business support manager at Shrewsbury Sports Village for Shropshire Council.
He had previously worked for the old Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council.
Charles Armstrong, friend and former councillor on the borough council, today said: “He was a great guy, very enthusiastic and he will be a loss to the service.”
Police said the silver coloured Honda motorbike that Mr Mann was riding was involved in the collision just before 8am yesterday and the road was closed in both directions, from Bridgnorth to the crossroads at Shatterford, until 2pm.
Officers today launched an appeal for witnesses as they continued their investigations into the incident.
Geraint Williams, the coroner for Worcestershire, has been informed about the death.
The Nissan driver, who was in his 30s and of Shatterford, is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

Dear Mann Family,
So saddened to hear about your loss. I only knew Rich for a few months, through circuit training at the Village. In that time, I developed a great deal of respect and admiration for him as a man, and trainer. Rich, you will be sorely missed, by all who knew you.
Rest in Peace.

I know that I speak for everyone who went to his circuits classes at the Sports Village when I say that we will miss him. He was such a great guy. Even when he made us work hard, he did it with a smile and with a good heart. And we liked him all the more for it. Our thoughts are with his family.

It’s hard to find words to say how much Richard will be missed. He was a great inspiration to all of us at Circuit Training. I found his encouragement and positive attitude a great help and he was always on hand to offer advice with a smile and a joke! I think he had no idea of the impact he had on people’s lives. Godbless you Rich’.x
