UK inflation drop continues to slow
Tuesday 16th June 2009, 10:19AM BST.
Annual inflation in the UK slowed once more in May with the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) falling to 2.2 per cent, official figures show.
The drop from 2.3 per cent the month before means the figure still stands above the Bank of England target of two per cent though.
Falling food and energy prices are believed to have helped continue the decline to the lowest levels since January, but the drop was less sharp as some analysts had predicted
Another measure of inflation, the Retail Prices Index (RPI) also released today by the Office for National Statistics rose from -1.1 per cent in May to -1.2 per cent in April.
The figure includes mortgage interest payments and housing costs.
