Thieves steal 10,000 litres of diesel

Tuesday 16th June 2009, 5:00PM BST.

Thieves stole 10,000 litres of white diesel after breaking into a Telford business, police said today.

The burglars forced their way through fencing and siphoned off the fuel from the premises in Halesfield.

Police today appealed for help to catch the criminals, who struck sometime between Saturday and yesterday.

Denise Wakefield, Telford police spokeswoman, said: “It is extremely likely the thieves would have used a large vehicle, possibly a small lorry, to carry out the theft.

“We are eager to hear from anyone who may have seen such a vehicle at the back of Halesfield 9, which is actually a farmer’s field, at the time.

“This vehicle may have looked out of place, especially if it wasn’t a farming vehicle.

“It is probable this vehicle was being driven along the Brockton to Shifnal Road, also known as the B4378,” she added.

“A significant amount of white diesel was stolen and it is possible the thieves may try and sell it.

“We would urge anyone who may have been asked to purchase diesel in suspicious circumstances since the theft, to contact us.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident, which happened between noon on Saturday and 6.40am yesterday, is urged to call police on 0300 333 3000, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
