Pioneering Shrewsbury company Shoothill has developed a unique innovation using Microsoft’s Virtual Earth to overlay maps online, giving an immediate comparison of how land has developed since 1840.

The TimeMap uses Microsoft Virtual Earth Mapping technology to allow for simultaneous comparative analysis of old Ordinance survey maps, or photos, which are overlaid over the modern world.

Managing director Rod Plummer told the judges that aerial photography, including historical aerial reconnaissance photos from World War 1 and 2, was included in the system and TimeMap could even re-create historic maps in 3D topography.
