‘Halfwit’ survives the boot

Saturday 13th June 2009, 10:28AM BST.

freddieShropshire’s Big Brother contestant Freddie Fisher has escaped becoming the first official housemate to be booted out of the TV house.

Instead Sophia Brown, who went head to head with Freddie, of Market Drayton, in last night’s public vote, was overwhelmingly voted out.

The 26-year-old banking assistant from London, who was seen on the highlights show rowing with walk-out Saffia Corden, received 91.2 per cent of the votes, ending her eight days on the show.

She said: “That’s all right, that’s all right,” when Davina McCall delivered the news.

Sophia was nominated by six of the housemates, and when she left the house received a resounding chorus of boos from the audience.

Questioned by Davina, she was asked about her relationship with 27-year-old single mother Corden – to which she responded: “We just didn’t get on.”

Sophia said she was “shocked” when the beauty consultant from Nottingham left the house on Thursday.

She added that she “couldn’t get the name right” after repeatedly mispronouncing Saffia’s name.

“I did not know I was coming off that aggressive,” she said.

When asked what it would mean to him to stay in the house, Freddie, 23, who earned his place as an official housemate by agreeing to change his name to Halfwit by deed poll, said to Big Brother: “It would mean more of an opportunity for the other housemates to get to know me, and more importantly for the people of Britain to get to know me.

“Here I am as an open book, and I hope you enjoy your reading.”
