A Shropshire couple have been made MBEs for fostering children for more than 20 years.

Malcolm Davies, 70, and his wife Patricia, known as Jeanne, 67, of Hadnall, near Shrewsbury, have fostered more than 100 vulnerable children, taking them in at short notice and at all times of the day.

Respite is another service they provide offering other foster carers the chance to have a break by taking the children in their care.

As well as taking care of their foster children, the Davies have five children and adopted two more as babies – all now grown up.

Mrs Davies said she and her husband were thrilled to receive an MBE each. She said: “We have looked after 101 children and we have photos of all of them.

“It becomes a way of life. I have a huge family myself and thoroughly enjoyed having a large family.”

Mr Davies said the children kept him active. He added: “We really do enjoy it – the only disappointment now is if there’s a dads’ race at school and they want me to compete I’m against all the young ones, but I have a go.

“Getting the MBE is indescribable. We are accepting it on behalf of all the other carers as they all do a fantastic job.”

I’ve known Malcolm and Jeanne for a few years now they actually fostered my little girl before we adopted her. I always say if a child is unfortunate enough to start life in the care system the best they could hope for is to be fostered in a positive loving family orientated home like Malcolm and Jeannes. While my daughter was with them there were four other foster children and they were all happy and much loved. Malcolm and Jeanne are a credit to their profession and deserve their honour and much more Regards Fiona
