This is the spot, as the sign tells us, that Dawley-born Captain Matthew Webb was killed, trying to swim the rapids below Niagara Falls. The photo is dated October 17, 1969. Does anyone know if the notice is still there today?

I was interested in the picture in wednesdays star pictures from the past re the alms houses high ercall as i am the youth on the right of the shot the person in the centre is my mother mrs gears who was warden then sadly now deceased we lived there from 1956 until 1963 i was 15 years old then and had left school about two months earlier thanks for the memories
