College sheep shot dead
Friday 12th June 2009, 2:31PM BST.
A sheep has been found shot in a field at a university college near Newport.
The animal was discovered at a farm at Harper Adams in the village of Edgmond.
Police were alerted to the find just before 10am yesterday and the animal is believed to have died between Wednesday night and yesterday morning.
Chris Ammonds, Telford Police spokesman, said: “We had a call overnight saying it looks like someone had shot one of their sheep through the neck. The sheep was in a field.
“It was found lying dead. We attended but saw no bullets or anything like that but it looked like it may have been shot.”
Police also informed the RSPCA and an investigation has been launched.
Harper Adams University College today confirmed that the sheep belonged to the college farm, which surrounds the campus at Edgmond.
A spokeswoman said: “The matter is now in police hands and staff, students and other people in the area have been alerted in the hope that someone might have seen or heard something that will assist officers with their inquiries.”
Mr Ammonds said: “We are interested to hear from anybody who has heard or seen anything or know what has happened to call us on 0300 3333000.”
