Moore off – but Wolves back

Thursday 11th June 2009, 3:26PM BST.

Blyth defender John Brackstone catches a lift on the back of Telford's Lee MooreAFC Telford United today parted company with club record signing Lee Moore – bringing his three-year stay at the club to an end.

Moore originally joined on loan from Tamworth in September 2006 but his eight goals in three months prompted the club to pay a record £5,000 to sign him permanently.

The move proved good business as Moore went on to help the club to promotion from the UniBond League premier division via a play-off final with Witton Albion.

He has gone on to register 33 goals for the Bucks, taking him to the top of the all-time AFC Telford scoring charts.

But he struggled to hold down a regular place in the side last season and was told he could move on during a meeting with assistant manager Larry Chambers this morning.

“Lee was a key player for us during the year we got promoted and has been a great servant to the club,” said Chambers.

“He had intimated he would like to stay but I think he wants to play regular first team football and we cannot guarantee that for him.

“He understands the situation and we had an amicable discussion.

He’s at an age and at a stage in his career when he needs to be playing and we wish him all the best.

“He’s been good value for what we paid for him and he’s currently the club’s top goalscorer, so he can be proud of that.”

Meanwhile, Telford have received a timely financial boost as Wolves reserves agreed to return to the New Bucks Head.

The Molineux men operated without a second string last season, preferring to arrange behind-closed- doors friendlies as required.

But they will be entering a team in the Barclays Premier League Reserve Division next season, and are arranging to stage a number of their fixtures at AFC Telford United ground.

The record crowd at the New Bucks Head is still held by a Wolves reserves match – with 6,280 turning up for the November 2004 clash with Liverpool, when Steven Gerrard was making a comeback from injury for the Reds.

“We have a good relationship with Wolves and this is an arrangement that suits both parties,” said chairman Lee Carter.
