The world player of the year is set for talks with the Spanish giants after the Old Trafford club gave a possible move the green light.

The forward has been linked with a move to Spain for several years.

United’s defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final appears to be his last game for the English champions.

A United statement said: “At Cristiano’s request – who has again expressed his desire to leave – and after discussion with the player’s representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

“Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June.

“The club will not comment until further notice.”

No one player is bigger than any club, and for £80mill we could by a lot of quality players. It just appears that no one has told real madrid the world is in a recession.
