Fourth arrest over attempted murder
Wednesday 10th June 2009, 3:45PM BST.
A fourth man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with an attack on a man in Wellington which left him fighting for his life in hospital.
The 22-year-old was being questioned by police officers today after being arrested yesterday.
Three men – one in his late 30s and two in their early 20s – have been released on bail until later this month pending further inquiries.
They were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday morning.
The arrests come just over a week after the 29-year-old victim was found critically injured in Urban Gardens.
He remains in a critical, but stable condition in hospital with multiple injuries, including serious head injuries.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “Three men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have now been bailed until a later date.
“Another 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of the same offence. He remains in custody at Telford’s Malinsgate police station.”
About 20 officers have been drafted in to work on the case after a major investigation unit (MIU) was set up at Malinsgate.
Despite the arrests police have said it was still vital for any witnesses to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Davenport, who was drafted in to set up the MIU, said yesterday: “I would once again appeal to anyone with information about this incident to come forward and share that information with us.”
Contact the MIU at Telford on 0300 333 3000 with any information.
